Site Information
The Grand Union canal is of local conservation value. In parts it is dominated by tall herbs and many of the lock walls have up to 5 species of fern.
The site along its length is home to many ducks, Moorhen, Swans and Heron.
Woodloes Site
Margaret Hall Reedbed
The Marget Hall Reedbed is a large stretch of reedbed on the non-towpath side of the river. It is a commonly used nest site for Mute Swans.
Scar Bank Bridge
Before the site was paved when the factory unit changed hands this was originally the site of a Mute Swan nest. It was often at risk from objects thrown from the bridge.
Gardens
The Mute Swans born on this stretch of the Canal often frequent the gardens on the stretch nearest Kates Boats Boatyard. Here they have a safe roost site and some of the residents feed them.
In 2007 a pair of Swans nested at the bottom of one of the gardens and hatched 4 cygnets (AJV)
Wedgnock
The Wedgnock site is a small section of reedbed that has been used in the past as a swan nest site. Unfortunatly in 2006 this site became unusable due to extensive encroachment by brambles.
